What People Are Saying About Our School?

  • The owner, Miranda, and all the fantastic teachers at the school have created an amazing environment. The students can do what they love, and compete on elite teams if they choose to, without it being a competitive environment with a lot of pressure, which is why I chose the school. My daughter has gone there for ten years and adores everyone there.

  • My 7-year-old recently attended a Taylor Swift inspired summer camp with PAS and she loved it! The instructors were engaging and facilitated a full day of fun activities for the kids. It can be a struggle to get my daughter excited about full-day camps, but she was keen to attend every day. I also really appreciated the performance the instructors staged for families at end of the last day.

The Unique Beauty Of A Lyrical Jazz Dance Class For Kids

Watching a child discover how to express their inner feelings through movement is a truly moving experience. This specific genre goes far beyond simply memorizing steps and counting to the beat. We guide our students to feel the music deeply and let the lyrics drive their physical expressions.

Fusing Ballet Grace With Jazz Energy

To master this beautiful hybrid style, dancers need a solid understanding of basic body alignment. We spend time working on fluid transitions, ensuring that every leap and turn looks effortless and completely connected to the musical phrase.

At the same time, we incorporate the grounded and sharp elements of traditional jazz to add dynamic contrast. This means your child will learn how to seamlessly shift between floating softly across the room and hitting a powerful dramatic pose.

Telling A Story With Kids Jazz Lyrical Dance

The word lyrical itself means having a poetic and expressive quality, which is exactly what we teach in our kids jazz lyrical dance sessions. Instructors carefully select age appropriate songs with positive and relatable messages that children can easily understand.

We then ask the students what the words mean to them personally. By turning their own thoughts and feelings into choreography, they develop a profound sense of artistic ownership over their performance.

How Lyrical Jazz Dance Classes Differ From Upbeat Styles

Many parents wonder about the exact distinction between this emotional genre and standard upbeat studio sessions. When you observe lyrical jazz dance classes, the very first thing you will notice is the pacing and the mood of the room. The atmosphere is generally much calmer, allowing dancers to focus intensely on their breathing and the continuous flow of their bodies.

In contrast, traditional upbeat classes are all about high energy, sharp isolations, and moving as quickly as possible to pop music. The movements there are highly stylized and designed to look punchy and incredibly crisp.

To help you make the best choice for your child’s personality, we have outlined the core differences between these two popular paths. Understanding these distinct characteristics will ensure your little performer finds the perfect environment to thrive and express themselves comfortably.

Feature Lyrical Jazz Upbeat Commercial Jazz
Focus Emotional storytelling and fluid transitions High energy, sharp isolations, and punchy routines
Music Choice Ballads and songs with meaningful lyrics Fast paced pop and energetic radio hits
Movement Quality Continuous, breath-driven, and expressive Segmented, rhythmic, and highly stylized

Preparing For Lyrical Jazz Dance For Kids

Creating a safe and comfortable physical environment is essential for anyone participating in lyrical jazz dance for kids. Because this style involves a significant amount of floor work and expansive stretching, the right clothing can make a huge difference. We strongly recommend sending your child in form fitting dancewear like a leotard paired with footless tights or snug leggings.

Baggy clothing should be avoided entirely for this specific program. Excess fabric can easily get caught during complex floor rolls or obscure the dancer’s knee alignment, making it difficult for our teachers to ensure they are practicing safely. A neat ballet bun or a tightly secured ponytail is also required so their vision remains completely clear during rapid turns.

Regarding footwear, this genre requires a very specific connection to the studio floor. Most students prefer dancing barefoot or wearing specialized half soles, sometimes called lyrical shoes or foot undies. These minimalist shoes protect the ball of the foot during repetitive spins while leaving the heel and toes bare for maximum traction and control.
